Employers have a responsibility towards their employees and fulfilling these responsibilities has dual advantage, as not only does the employer get improved efficiency, but the employees too feel good about themselves and feel rejuvenated and motivated to work. The employer should consider the Alexander Technique for corporate trainings, as it has proven to be very beneficial to all parties. Let’s see how.

Why Alexander Technique for Corporate Training?

The Alexander Technique helps in many different areas of corporate life and helps you improve in all these quarters, thus improving your overall work efficiency and productivity levels.

Managing Stress

Long working hours, sitting at a desk for hours and trying to meet deadlines can be quite stressful. Stress at work only has a negative effect on productivity, as it slows down thinking and problem solving powers and makes you slow. Stress has negative effects on your health as well; it can lead to sleepless nights, coronary problems, breathing problems, etc. So, because of all these reasons, it is imperative that you should be able to manage stress.

The Alexander Technique uses a simple formula to help you with stress management called the “use effect function”. It helps in the re-education of the correct way to use your body to get the desired results that are the “function”. The Alexander technique helps you by:

o Improving breathing techniques.
o Improving stamina.
o Identifying problem areas and tension areas.
o Telling you what action to take to alleviate the tension areas.
o Helping you to think clearly and spontaneously and improves quick thinking.
o Bringing about an awareness of the environment and helping you adjust to it.
o Correcting bad posture and wrong methods of muscle use.
o Improving self awareness so you can tackle the above listed problems.

Presentation Skills:

The corporate sector requires proficiency in presentation skills and using the Alexander Technique helps you improve these skills. It helps you to:

o Improve breathing techniques that allow you to remain calm and speak well.
o Improve voice modulation.
o Improve stance and body posture to exude confidence.
o Improve stamina to stand and talk in front of large groups for longer times.

Manual Work:

Manual work is literally back breaking work and Alexander Technique can really help you out here by:

o Improving stamina for longer work hours and hard labour.
o Improving breathing and helping people who have breathing problems like asthma.
o Improving body posture and body use techniques to avoid overuse and exertion at work.

Ergonomic Training

Ergonomic training through the Alexander Technique teaches you to:

o Be more aware of your surrounding environment and use it to your benefit, thus helping you fit in and improve work efficiency.
o Avoid strain injury.
o Avoid and eliminate back and shoulder stiffness and body pains.
o Handle carpel tunnel syndrome and any other chronic body pains you may suffer from.
o Improve body posture and use your muscles and body in the correct manner while sitting at your desk and working long hours.

This is a very nice article! I run a small distribution company in LA and after a positive experience I had with an Alexander Technique teacher (who I went to for back pain) I decided it would be helpful for my employees as well. I had my teacher come for a series of workshops and the response has been amazing! Most of the people in my firm have found it very, very helpful – and, it seems to me that overall morale has increased.

There’s a great website – http://alexandertechnique.com – that provides all the information you need to get started.
